Who should take this course?
Professional Scrum Master - Advanced is a course specifically designed for experienced Scrum Masters who thoroughly understand the Scrum framework. It is particularly beneficial for those with at least one year of Scrum Master experience. The PSM-A is not going to teach you a lot of new things about Scrum. Instead, the goal is to get better at what you already know through conversations and discussions with the group, while focussing on specific case studies.
You will learn about critical areas for growth as a successful Scrum Master and create awareness of the areas that feel very natural to you and the ones that need improvement. You will explore the stances of an effective Scrum Master: The Scrum Master as a Teacher, Coach & Mentor, Facilitator and Change Agent. The accountabilities of a Scrum Master are complex. As a Scrum Master, you have to learn how to identify and effectively apply the most beneficial stance in each circumstance. During this course, you will learn how to support your team, Product Owner and the organization with those stances to become more effective in delivering value to the customer.
The Professional Scrum Trainers will provide stories, exercises, facilitation techniques (such as "Liberating Structures"), resources, and more throughout the course. There will also be space in course to provide coaching on challenges that you and the other students may be experiencing today or in the future. The course is divided into different modules. Of course, we will inspect and adapt based on your questions and experiences. The training consists of:
- Introduction
- Difference between a Scrum Master and a Professional Scrum Master
- How to support the Developers
- How to support the Product Owner
- How to support the organization
- Practical coaching techniques, methods, and practices
To maximize your learning experience, we advise you the following:
- Read the Scrum Guide (at least once) and write down any questions or remarks.
- Additionally, the free online Scrum Open and Product Owner Open assessments on the Scrum.org website can provide valuable insights.
After the training, you will have access to the ‘classroom page’, which contains all relevant training materials. As a bonus, via this page, you will also have access to content which dives deeper into specific topics, related to your role and the challenges and environments you might encounter.
Additionally, you will receive an invite to the Scrum Facilitators Slack community. On this platform, you can connect with other professionals for help and receive discounts for products and other courses.
After the training, you will receive an assessment code from Scrum.org support to take the PSM II assessment. There is no expiration date on this assessment code. However, when you take your first attempt within two weeks after the training and do not pass the 85% marker, you will automatically receive a new code for your second attempt.
You will:
- Understand the stances of a Scrum Master
- Know what practices, tools and skills make an effective Scrum Master
- Understand how the Scrum Master acts as a servant-leader
- Understand what the Scrum Master can do to support the team and Product Owner to become more effective
- Be able to help management and other stakeholders across your organisation to understand the benefits of Scrum and Agile
- Be able to use Liberating Structures to facilitate your team and organization
